Urmila Pable Goes Viral for Snowboarding in a Saree on Gulmarg’s Slopes

A 22-year-old athlete has captured the internet’s attention after snowboarding down the snowy slopes of Gulmarg while wearing a traditional saree.

The viral moment features Urmila Pable gliding down a mountain in Gulmarg, India, as the six yards of her saree flowed dramatically behind her in the cold mountain air. The striking visual quickly spread across social media, earning admiration from viewers around the world.

However, Urmila’s story goes far beyond the viral video. Raised in Navi Mumbai, her journey into sports began when she first learned roller skating at the age of five. Life took a difficult turn when her father passed away while she was still in school, leaving her mother to support the family alone.

Determined to keep her sporting dreams alive, Urmila began working at the age of 17 while continuing to pursue her passion for skating. Years later, a visit to a local skate park reignited her childhood enthusiasm, eventually leading her to compete professionally.

She went on to represent India in the World Skateboarding Championship and won a silver medal at the National Games of India.

In February 2025, Urmila tried snowboarding for the first time and quickly proved her talent by winning a bronze medal at the Khelo India Winter Games.
