Croatia opener Connor Carroll has etched his name into the record books with the most prolific start ever to a men’s T20 International career, after scoring a third consecutive 50-plus innings in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Regional Europe Qualifier A.
The left-handed batter smashed 74 runs in just his third T20I appearance, taking his tally to an incredible 295 runs in three innings — the highest aggregate ever recorded by a player at the start of a T20I career. Carroll surpassed the previous record of 286 runs, held by France’s Gustav McKeon.
Carroll announced himself on the international stage in Croatia’s opening match of the tournament against France, where he blasted a rapid 71 off 34 balls in a daunting chase of 209. His innings stood out dramatically, with Croatia’s next-highest score being only 12 off 10 balls.
The 21-year-old followed up that performance with a sensational unbeaten 150 off 72 deliveries against Switzerland. His explosive innings featured 13 fours and 10 sixes, powering Croatia to 199-2 in 20 overs. Remarkably, the rest of the batting unit contributed only 41 runs from 48 balls, while extras added eight more.
Switzerland finished 16 runs short of the target, with Carroll also contributing with the ball by claiming his first international wicket.
A left-arm batter who also bowls off-spin, Carroll’s remarkable consistency and attacking stroke play have quickly turned him into one of the standout performers of the European qualifiers.
With three extraordinary innings to begin his T20I journey, the Croatian star has already established himself as one of the most exciting emerging players in associate cricket.
