In a moment that celebrates global spirituality and cultural connection, Shri Jonas Masetti, also known as Acharya Vishvanath, has been conferred the Padma Shri 2025 in the category of Others – Spiritualism. This prestigious Indian civilian honour recognizes his remarkable efforts in promoting Vedanta philosophy, Bhagavad Gita teachings, and Sanskrit studies in Brazil and across the Americas.
Once a mechanical engineer and financial professional, Masetti’s spiritual journey began when he felt a deep inner void despite material success. He left his career to immerse himself in Vedantic studies in India, under the guidance of Swami Dayananda Saraswati at Arsha Vidya Gurukulam in Coimbatore.
- Founder of Vishva Vidya Gurukulam, located in Petrópolis, Brazil, where he teaches Vedanta, meditation, and mantra chanting.
- Has reached over 150,000 students globally through digital platforms and live sessions.
- Promotes cross-cultural learning, blending Vedic and Amazonian traditions to foster harmony and introspection.
- Recognized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Mann Ki Baat address as a bridge between India and the Western world in matters of spirituality.
Wearing a traditional white dhoti, sacred ash, and tilak, Masetti received the Padma Shri award barefoot—symbolizing his deep-rooted reverence for Indian tradition.
“This award is a recognition of the spiritual path we’ve shared as a community. It reaffirms that even from faraway lands, we are part of India’s sacred parampara,” he said in an interview.
- Global Reach of Indian Knowledge: His recognition affirms that Vedic teachings are relevant, alive, and embraced worldwide.
- Cultural Exchange: His work connects Brazil’s spiritual landscape with India’s ancient wisdom.
- Inspirational Figure: Masetti’s life reflects courage, transformation, and the power of choosing inner truth over outer success.
Shri Jonas Masetti’s Padma Shri is more than a personal achievement—it’s a symbol of how India’s spiritual heritage continues to influence and uplift humanity across borders.
