Global pop icon Taylor Swift is set to give independent music retailers a major boost this year as she joins Record Store Day 2025 with an exclusive vinyl release that’s already sending fans and collectors into a frenzy.
Swift, a longtime supporter of physical media and indie music culture, will release a limited-edition vinyl of previously unreleased acoustic sessions and fan-favorite tracks, available only through participating independent record stores on April 20.
The collectible pressing, titled “Back to Acoustic: The Sessions,” includes stripped-down versions of hits from her Folklore, Evermore, and Midnights eras, along with handwritten lyrics and custom artwork designed by Swift herself. Only 25,000 copies will be available worldwide, making it one of the most anticipated drops of the day.
“Taylor’s involvement is a huge moment for Record Store Day,” said Michael Kurtz, co-founder of the event. “She has a massive following, and her presence helps shine a spotlight on the importance of independent music retailers in keeping the culture of music alive.”
Record stores across the U.S. and abroad are preparing for an influx of fans lining up overnight, hoping to snag a copy. Many locations are planning in-store events, early openings, and even live performances to celebrate the annual occasion.
Swift’s participation follows a growing trend of mainstream artists embracing vinyl and physical releases, helping revive interest in the traditional format among younger generations. Vinyl sales hit a 30-year high in 2024, with Swift’s previous releases playing a significant role in the resurgence.
Fans have taken to social media to express excitement, using hashtags like #RSDWithTaylor and #SwiftOnVinyl to share countdowns, wish lists, and store strategies.
This year’s Record Store Day features hundreds of exclusive releases from artists across all genres, but with Swift in the spotlight, industry insiders expect record-breaking foot traffic and sales.
As Swift once said in a 2023 interview, “There’s something magical about holding music in your hands — the crackle of a needle, the liner notes, the connection. I want my fans to experience that magic.” And come April 20, thousands of them will — one vinyl at a time.
