In a powerful demonstration of community spirit and compassion, over 1,000 volunteers in Arlington, Texas, came together to assemble a staggering number of sandwiches for those in need. The event, organized by the local non-profit Tango Charities, resulted in the creation of more than 10,000 sandwiches, which were then delivered to area food banks.
The massive undertaking, which also aimed to set a Guinness World Records title for the longest line of sandwiches, took place at the entertainment venue Texas Live!. On September 17, 2022, volunteers of all ages filled the tables, forming assembly lines to stack deli meat, cheese, and mustard onto slices of bread. The final count of 10,852 sandwiches not only contributed to a new world record but was also part of a larger effort to provide over 20,000 meals to hungry individuals in the community.
“What people don’t know is that there’s over 260 food organizations all around North Texas,” said Nick Marino Jr., the Volunteer Executive Director of Tango Charities. “So we are the middlemen, women, children, and senior citizens that come together to bring the food, bring the meals, and distribute to our partner organizations to keep their shelves filled.”
The event, titled “Feed The City,” has a history of breaking records. Tango Charities had previously set records for the most people making sandwiches simultaneously. This latest achievement, however, was a landmark moment, bringing together a diverse group of people for a common cause.
The successful event served as a powerful reminder of the impact that collective action can have. By turning a simple act of sandwich-making into a large-scale community project, the volunteers and organizers of Tango Charities proved that when people work together, they can make a significant difference in the lives of their neighbors.
