Rochdale Retains World’s Biggest Pancake Record

The town of Rochdale continues to hold the title for the world’s largest pancake, a record that has remained unbeaten for more than three decades.

The giant pancake was created on August 13, 1994, during celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the The Co‑operative Union Ltd. The massive culinary creation measured about 15.01 meters (49 feet 3 inches) in diameter, was 2.5 cm thick, and weighed an incredible three tonnes (6,614 pounds).

To cook the enormous pancake, organizers used a specially designed 50-foot pan and even brought in cranes to help flip the huge batter so both sides could cook evenly. Tens of thousands of spectators gathered to witness the unusual record attempt.

After it was cooked and officially verified by Guinness World Records, the pancake was cut into around 15,000 portions and sold to visitors, with proceeds supporting local causes.

Despite several attempts around the world to beat the achievement, Rochdale still holds the title for the largest pancake ever made, making the event one of the town’s most memorable historical feats.
