“Rajdutt Honoured with Padma Bhushan for Iconic Contributions to Marathi Cinema”

Renowned filmmaker and artist Shri Dattatray Ambadas Mayaloo, widely known by his artistic name Rajdutt, has been awarded the prestigious Padma Bhushan for his exceptional contributions to Art and Marathi Cinema. A celebrated name in Maharashtra’s cultural and cinematic landscape, Rajdutt’s work has left an enduring legacy across film, television, and theatre.

Rajdutt has directed and produced several critically acclaimed Marathi films that blended artistic storytelling with strong social messaging. Known for his nuanced direction, literary sensibility, and deep understanding of Maharashtra’s cultural roots, he brought Marathi cinema to new creative heights during the 1970s and 1980s.

His films, such as Gharabaher, Pudhcha Paul, and Chaani, are considered landmarks in regional cinema. With more than 25 feature films to his credit, Rajdutt’s directorial brilliance has shaped the careers of numerous actors and inspired generations of filmmakers.

Apart from filmmaking, Rajdutt also made significant contributions to theatre and television, where he continued to showcase his talent in storytelling and direction. His deep involvement in literary and cultural discussions earned him immense respect as a multi-disciplinary artist.
