Chelsea chase Nunez; Man City plot world-record Livramento bid

“Manchester City are reportedly preparing a world-record breaking transfer bid for English full-back Tino Livramento as part of their ambitious summer plans, according to several transfer sources.

The Premier League champions are said to be ready to offer around £70 million (about €80 million) to Newcastle United for the 23-year-old right-back — a fee that would eclipse the current world transfer record for a full-back and set a new benchmark for the position.

City’s interest in Livramento stems from a long-standing need to reinforce their right-back spot following the departure of veteran Kyle Walker. Despite midfielder Matheus Nunes and academy graduate Rico Lewis filling in at times this season, Pep Guardiola’s side see Livramento as a natural long-term solution down the flank.

The current highest fee paid for a full-back was reported in 2021 when Paris Saint-Germain signed Achraf Hakimi for around £60 million — a figure that City’s offer would surpass if it materialises. City also previously set a club record British fee for a defender with the £57 million paid for João Cancelo in 2019.

Livramento, a product of Chelsea FC’s youth system, has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most promising defenders since joining Newcastle in 2023. Talks over a contract extension with Newcastle have reportedly stalled, giving City an opportunity to test the Magpies’ resolve this summer.”
