Dombivli, Maharashtra | March 8, 2026 — In a historic celebration of culture and women’s empowerment, Dombivli witnessed a remarkable achievement as 9,111 women and girls came together to perform the traditional lezim dance, setting a new World Record.
The record-breaking performance was organized by Dombivlikar – Ek Sanskrutik Parivar in collaboration with the Kalyan Taluka Sharirik Shikshan Shikshak Mandal, and took place at the Shri Sant Savalaram Sports Complex. The event coincided with International Women’s Day 2026, adding deeper significance to the celebration.
The participants, comprising students from various schools across Dombivli, delivered a synchronized five-and-a-half-minute performance. The lezim, a traditional Maharashtrian folk dance known for its energetic movements and rhythmic coordination, uses a handheld instrument made of wood with metallic jingles that produce a distinctive sound.
According to official World Records in India , the previous record of 7,338 participants, set by Sangli Shikshan Sanstha in 2014, has now been surpassed. “Dombivli has shattered that record with 9,111 participants,” he confirmed.
The event was supported by Maharashtra BJP president and local MLA Ravindra Chavan, who praised the participants for showcasing both cultural pride and collective strength. “Lezim is an integral part of our culture. These women and students have demonstrated our strength to the world. I dedicate this record to Mother India,” Chavan stated.
This achievement not only highlights Maharashtra’s rich cultural heritage but also stands as a powerful symbol of unity, discipline, and women’s empowerment on a global stage.
