A remarkable goldfish named Blub the Goldfish has captured global attention after demonstrating an unusual ability — driving a small robotic vehicle.
The innovative experiment was conducted by researchers at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Tel Aviv, Israel, where scientists created a special water-filled tank mounted on a wheeled robotic platform.
Using motion sensors and cameras, the system detects the fish’s movements inside the tank. When Blub swims in a particular direction, the vehicle moves accordingly, effectively allowing the goldfish to “drive” around the room.
Researchers said the project was designed to study animal navigation and spatial awareness. Surprisingly, the goldfish quickly learned how to control the vehicle and navigate toward targets placed in the environment.
Scientists involved in the study explained that the results suggest fish possess stronger navigation abilities than previously believed, even when placed in unfamiliar environments outside water.
The unusual experiment has fascinated people around the world, highlighting both the intelligence of aquatic animals and the creative ways researchers are exploring animal behavior.
