Gulfarium’s Romeo Sets World Record as Oldest Manatee

A beloved marine resident at Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park has made history after being recognized as the world’s oldest manatee.

The manatee, named Romeo the Manatee, lives at the marine park in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, United States. According to caretakers, Romeo has reached an extraordinary age that surpasses all previously documented records for the species.

Officials from Guinness World Records confirmed Romeo’s milestone after reviewing historical records and veterinary documentation. The gentle giant has been a long-time attraction at the park and is adored by visitors and staff alike.

Manatees, often referred to as sea cows, typically live for several decades, but reaching Romeo’s age is extremely rare. Caretakers credit his longevity to attentive care, proper nutrition, and a safe environment at the facility.

Staff at Gulfarium say Romeo continues to remain active and social, delighting guests who come to see the record-holding marine mammal. His achievement has also helped raise awareness about the conservation of manatees and the importance of protecting their natural habitats.
