A towering structure made from 63,000 beer coasters came crashing down after a young girl accidentally knocked into it, moments before it was expected to be verified for a Guinness World Record.
The massive tower was built by artist Sven Goebel, who spent weeks carefully stacking the coasters into a delicate structure inside a public exhibition space in Munich, Germany. The installation was intended to break the world record for the tallest structure made entirely from beer coasters.
Witnesses said the tower stood several meters tall and had drawn large crowds eager to see the record-breaking attempt. However, just as the structure was nearing official measurement, a young girl reportedly brushed against the installation area, causing a chain reaction that sent the carefully balanced tower collapsing to the ground.
Spectators gasped as the coasters tumbled in seconds, undoing weeks of meticulous work. Organizers confirmed that no one was injured during the incident.
Despite the setback, Goebel remained calm and philosophical about the accident. Speaking to local media, he said that while it was disappointing, he understood that such delicate constructions always carry a risk of collapse.
“It’s part of the challenge,” he said. “When you build something this fragile, anything can happen.”
Event organizers said the artist may attempt to rebuild the tower and try for the Guinness World Record again in the future.
