Two dedicated educators from East Mount Airy have completed a marathon teaching session on African and African-American history, running for over 31 hours in a bid to set a new Guinness World Record for the Longest History Lesson — and now await official verification from Guinness World Records.
The historic event took place at the Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church in Philadelphia, where Dr. Anita Lewis and Gwendolyn W. Ebron, M.Ed. led students and community members through an extensive curriculum covering 5,000 years of African and African-American history.
Their attempt, which spanned more than 33 hours from Feb. 27 to Feb. 28, surpassed the previous record of 26 hours and 34 minutes — set in 2018 at the University of North Texas. To comply with Guinness guidelines, the educators taught continuously with only a five-minute break allowed each hour.
Organisers said the marathon lesson was more than just a record-breaking effort — it was a powerful educational initiative during Black History Month aimed at deepening community understanding and appreciation of centuries of Black history and culture.
