French urban climber Alain Robert, famously nicknamed the “French Spider-Man,” set the world record for the fastest unassisted solo climb of the Burj Khalifa Tower, the world’s tallest building.
Robert reached the 828-metre (2,717 ft) summit in a breathtaking 6 hours, 13 minutes and 55 seconds on 29 March 2011, completing the ascent barefoot and with minimal safety gear after obtaining approval from authorities.
The climb started at 6:03 pm on 28 March and concluded just after midnight the following day, thrilling onlookers and setting a benchmark in extreme urban climbing. Although Dubai’s strict safety regulations required some protective equipment, the record was logged as an unassisted solo effort with Robert relying on his skill, strength and sheer determination.
This achievement highlights not only the physical challenge of scaling such an architectural marvel but also the growing community of mountaineers pushing the limits of human possibility in urban environments.
