Largest Dappu Rally at Dasara Carnival

The vibrant city of Vijayawada has officially entered the Guinness World Records books for hosting the largest gathering of dappu (traditional drum) artistes during its spectacular Dasara Carnival, part of the larger Vijayawada Utsav cultural celebration. The record‑breaking performance was validated by Guinness officials and is now being celebrated as a global cultural milestone.

The historic achievement unfolded on Mahatma Gandhi Road, where thousands of dappu players clad in traditional attire and playing in synchronised rhythm — turned the city into a pulsating canvas of music, culture and community spirit. The Guinness World Record certificate was presented to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and members of the Society for Vibrant Vijayawada, recognising this remarkable cultural feat.

More than 3,000 artistes took part in the massive rally, blending classical folk rhythms with modern festive fervour as the carnival parade spanned from Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium to Benz Circle — drawing spectators from across the region and beyond.

The Dasara Carnival also featured vibrant tableaux, a divine procession of Goddess Durga, and a rich showcase of folk art forms, transforming Vijayawada into an energetic festival hub that combined tradition with a contemporary celebration of unity and culture. Organisers and cultural advocates hailed the achievement as a testament to the city’s rich artistic heritage and its ability to bring communities together through music and festivity. With the Guinness World Record now under its belt, Vijayawada’s carnival is expected to gain even more prominence and continue growing as a landmark international festival.
