Largest Bird-Shaped Building

Turkmenistan has soared into the record books with Ashgabat International Airport, officially recognised as the world’s largest bird-shaped building, a striking architectural landmark that has earned global acclaim.

Designed in the shape of a giant falcon with outstretched wings, the airport terminal spans an area of approximately 350,000 square metres, symbolising speed, strength, and national pride. The record was acknowledged by the World Record Academy, highlighting the building’s unique design and massive scale.

Opened in 2016, the airport can handle 14 million passengers annually and features advanced aviation facilities, luxury interiors, and cutting-edge technology. The falcon design reflects Turkmenistan’s cultural heritage, where the bird represents freedom and power.

Ashgabat International Airport has since become one of the most recognisable airports in the world, attracting attention not only for its functionality but also for its bold and imaginative architecture.
