Largest Chalk Pavement Art Created in Copenhagen

The Danish art collective Soulwash set the Guinness World Record for the largest chalk pavement art in history. The massive pavement artwork was completed on 16 August 2015 in Norrebrogade, Copenhagen, covering a staggering 18,598 square metres of urban street with colourful chalk designs.

The record-breaking mural transformed the city’s busy thoroughfare into a sprawling canvas filled with an array of drawings, motifs and vibrant illustrations. Thousands of residents and visitors joined forces in the effort, sharing chalk and adding their own artistic contributions to the monumental piece.

The artwork’s sheer scale equivalent to more than 200,000 square feet not only earned it official recognition from Guinness World Records but also celebrated Copenhagen’s thriving creative spirit and community engagement in the arts. This achievement remains one of the most striking examples of large-scale public art and highlights how collective participation can turn ordinary city streets into world-record-breaking masterpieces.
