In a significant step toward modernization and protection of military assets, the Indian Army has officially secured exclusive legal rights to its newly designed combat coat, marking another milestone following the launch of the digital-print combat uniform earlier in January 2025. The new coat, designed for enhanced camouflage, comfort, and tactical efficiency, is now protected under Indian patent law, preventing unauthorized manufacturing or sale.
The design and camouflage pattern of the coat have been legally registered by the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks (CGPDTM) in Kolkata. The application, filed under number 449667-001, received official approval on 27 February 2025 and was subsequently published in the Patent Journal on 7 October 2025.
With the registration complete, the Indian Army now holds exclusive rights over the coat’s entire design. This ensures that no civilian entity, manufacturer, or retailer can produce or market the combat coat without express authorization from military authorities. Violators will face strict legal consequences, including penalties and legal prosecution.
Officials have emphasized that this step is crucial to maintaining uniform authenticity, preventing misuse, and ensuring that only high-quality, approved gear is worn by soldiers on active duty.
The newly introduced combat coat is part of a larger initiative aimed at replacing older military attire with more durable, climate-adapted, and technologically advanced gear. The Army’s digital-print uniform, launched earlier in 2025, has already been praised for its improved camouflage capabilities and ergonomic design suited for multiple terrains.
The combat coat complements the uniform with enhanced comfort, improved fabric strength, and a modern camouflage pattern designed to blend seamlessly into diverse operational environments.
