Ryan Martin, a dedicated physical education teacher at Saco Middle School and a former college basketball player, has officially captured his third Guinness World Record, cementing his reputation as one of the world’s most prolific three-point shooters.
In a thrilling community event held at the school gymnasium, Martin broke the record for the Most high school three-pointers made in one hour, sinking an astonishing 1,516 baskets.
Martin’s latest target was highly ambitious, requiring him to maintain an incredible shooting rhythm for a full 60 minutes.
To set the new record, Martin needed to make 1,372 shots from the high school three-point line.
The Result: He attempted 1,683 shots and successfully made 1,516 of them, achieving a remarkable 90% completion rate.
This success required him to average nearly 25 shots per minute, or roughly one successful shot every 2.5 seconds, sustained throughout the hour.
The packed gym—filled with cheering students, staff, and families—erupted each time Martin passed a new milestone, with the energy helping him fight through painful cramps that set in midway through the attempt.
The Saco teacher is now an established Guinness record holder, with all three titles focusing on extreme volume and endurance in basketball shooting:
Most Free Throws Made in One Hour: (2,494 makes)
Most NBA Three-Pointers Made in One Hour: (1,086 makes)
Most High School Three-Pointers Made in One Hour: (1,516 makes)
Martin utilized the record attempt as a powerful teaching moment, demonstrating perseverance and passion to his students. The event also served as a community fundraiser, with a portion of the proceeds supporting the Saco Middle School athletic program.
“I think the importance of just finding something you are passionate in,” Martin said. “I’ve learned hard work. I’ve learned perseverance, just from having a passion in something.”
Martin is reportedly already planning his next attempt: aiming for the record for the Most Half Court Shots Made in One Hour.
