In a monumental achievement for the timber and manufacturing industries, Romania has officially entered the Guinness World Records for establishing the world’s largest blockboard factory in the town of Comănești. This state-of-the-art facility marks a new chapter in Europe’s wood-processing sector, symbolizing innovation, scale, and sustainable industrial growth.
Developed by HS Timber Group, a global leader in wood processing, the new Comănești Blockboard Plant spans an impressive 30 hectares (over 3 million square feet), featuring one of the most advanced production lines in the world. The factory has an annual production capacity exceeding 500,000 cubic meters of blockboards — panels used globally in furniture, construction, and interior design.
What sets this Romanian marvel apart is not just its size but its commitment to sustainability. The facility operates using 100% renewable energy sources and follows a zero-waste production model, where every wood particle is utilized — from sawdust for biomass energy to by-products for eco-materials.
According to Guinness World Records, the plant has officially been certified as the “World’s Largest Blockboard Manufacturing Facility”, making Romania a global hub in high-quality wood engineering and export.
Speaking on the occasion, Thomas Dörflinger, CEO of HS Timber Group, said:
“Comănești has become the heart of a global industry shift — where scale meets sustainability. This record isn’t just for Romania, but for the entire European wood sector moving toward responsible innovation.”
The factory employs over 700 skilled professionals, boosting the local economy and creating opportunities for regional suppliers and logistics partners. Equipped with AI-powered automation systems, robotic handling units, and precision-engineered kilns, the facility represents the future of large-scale eco-manufacturing.
Beyond industrial success, the project also contributes to Romania’s green transition, aligning with EU climate goals and supporting sustainable forestry practices through certified sourcing.
This world record puts Comănești — once a quiet industrial town — on the global map as a center of sustainable engineering excellence.
