One of the most remarkable and unusual streaks in international cricket history has finally come to an end. Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube’s world record 2,151-day unbeaten run—a period spanning nearly six years—was broken on Friday (October 30) after India suffered a four-wicket defeat to Australia in the second T20I at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
The defeat meant the end of Dube’s unparalleled record, which made him the only male player in history to be part of over 30 consecutive international wins across all formats.
For 2,151 days, Dube had been the unofficial ‘lucky charm’ of the Indian squad. Whenever he was named in the playing XI, the result was a win or a no-result (washout)—never a defeat.
- Duration: The streak began on December 11, 2019, with India’s victory over the West Indies in Mumbai.
- Matches: The streak cover 37 T20 International matches, during which India secured 34 victories and had three no-results due to rain.
- Record: Dube’s 37-match unbeaten run is the longest by any male cricketer in T20I history, comfortably surpassing the next best streak.
The loss at the MCG was only the third T20I defeat of Dube’s career, with the previous two happening during his debut month back in late 2019.
The streak met its unfortunate end as India’s batting lineup struggled, collapsing to a total of 125. Dube, batting lower down the order, failed to make a mark, falling for just four runs as Australia dominantly chased down the target with 40 balls to spare.
The same game also saw the end of other significant Indian streaks, including paceman Jasprit Bumrah’s 24-match unbeaten run and the team’s winning streak under captain Suryakumar Yadav.
Dube’s record stands as a testament to the period of significant dominance by the Indian T20I side, and although the streak is over, his name is now firmly etched in the record books as one of the game’s most unique record-holders.
