The Indian railway system has marked a historic milestone, with the Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Hubballi Junction in Karnataka officially being recognized as home to the longest railway platform in the world.
The record-breaking platform at Hubballi Junction now measures an astonishing 1,507 metres (approximately 4,944 feet), a length that has earned it a coveted place in the Guinness World Records.
The extension of the platform was part of a major yard remodelling project undertaken by the South Western Railway division. This expansion aims to significantly improve operational efficiency, allowing the vital junction to handle a higher volume of trains and even facilitate the simultaneous operation of two trains on the same track.
The new record surpasses the previous title holder, which was the platform at Gorakhpur Junction in Uttar Pradesh, further solidifying India’s prominence in global railway infrastructure.
The record recognition celebrates not just a feat of engineering, but a significant boost to connectivity and passenger convenience in the North Karnataka region, positioning the Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Hubballi Junction as a symbol of modern Indian Railways.
