China Unveils World’s Tallest Bridge Featuring a Coffee Shop at the Summit

China has opened a new engineering marvel that is not just a crucial transport link but also a sky-high tourist destination. The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in the mountainous Guizhou province has officially opened to traffic, claiming the title of the world’s tallest bridge by deck height and featuring a stunning, two-story, glass-walled coffee shop perched atop one of its towers.

The new attraction, named Interstellar Coffee, sits at an elevation of 800 meters (2,624 feet) above the ground, offering visitors a 360-degree panoramic view of the deep canyon and the Beipan River far below. Visitors ascend to the glass-encased café in a high-speed glass elevator that reaches the summit in under a minute, providing a unique dining experience literally among the clouds.

The bridge complex is designed to be a “bridge-tourism fusion,” featuring several other attractions:

  • Glass Skywalk: A walkway that allows tourists to look directly down into the canyon.
  • Bungee Jumping: Opportunities for thrill-seekers to plunge from the bridge’s immense height.
  • High-Speed Elevator: A 207-meter-tall glass lift solely for tourists.

The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge rises an astonishing 625 meters (2,051 feet) from the bridge deck to the bottom of the gorge, officially surpassing the nearby Duge Bridge (also in Guizhou) to become the highest bridge in the world.

The colossal steel-truss suspension bridge, which was completed in under four years, is expected to be a major economic catalyst for the remote region. Most importantly, it dramatically cuts travel time across the canyon from a winding two hours to a mere two minutes, greatly enhancing connectivity on the Guizhou S57 expressway.

The opening of this infrastructure giant on September 28, 2025, solidifies China’s reputation for mega-scale construction projects and its commitment to improving transport links in its mountainous regions.
