India’s Most Expensive Bottle Sets New Luxury Record

India’s luxury alcohol market has shattered a new record with a homegrown single malt whisky officially becoming the most expensive bottle available for purchase in the country, with a price tag exceeding ₹10 Lakh (Ten Lakh Rupees).

The bottle in question is Amrut Expedition, a highly limited-edition single malt released by Bengaluru-based Amrut Distilleries to mark its 75th anniversary. The flagship spirit is priced at approximately ₹10.50 Lakh in select Indian cities, setting a new benchmark for ultra-premium liquor made in India.

The astronomical price is attributed to the whisky’s extreme rarity and age—it is believed to be the oldest single malt ever produced in India, a 15-year-old expression aged in a combination of Sherry and Bourbon casks.

Beyond the liquid gold, the packaging itself is a collector’s masterpiece. The release is limited to just 75 bottles worldwide, with each one:

  • Individually numbered and engraved.
  • Housed in a meticulously handcrafted wooden box that took six months to perfect.
  • Accompanied by a bespoke silver peg measure, crafted by a silversmith in Bengaluru.
  • Equipped with a custom NFC tag and authentication card to guarantee its provenance.

The launch of Amrut Expedition underscores the rapid premiumisation of the Indian spirits market, where homegrown single malts are increasingly competing with and surpassing international luxury brands.

Prior to this launch, Rampur Signature Reserve, an Indian single malt with a price tag of ₹5 Lakh per bottle, held the distinction of being one of the country’s most expensive domestic spirits.

Industry analysts suggest the successful sale of such ultra-high-end products indicates a strong appetite among India’s affluent consumers for unique, limited-edition collector’s items that also showcase exceptional Indian craftsmanship and heritage. The bottles are being positioned not just as a beverage, but as a prestigious liquid investment.
