Surgery at Your Doorstep! India Unveils Its First Tele-Robotic Surgery Bus — SSI Mantram

In a revolutionary step to democratize healthcare, SS Innovations, the maker of India’s indigenous surgical robotic system, has unveiled SSI Mantram (Mantra Tele-Sync Mobile Unit)—India’s first-of-its-kind mobile tele-robotic surgery unit, bringing advanced surgical capabilities directly to remote and underserved communities.

Dubbed as “telesurgery on wheels,” the SSI Mantram bus is a fully equipped mobile unit that houses the advanced SSi Mantra surgical robotic system. This innovation allows expert surgeons to perform or guide complex procedures remotely, effectively bridging the vast geographical gaps in specialized medical care across India.

Built on a robust chassis, the specially engineered mobile unit is designed to withstand the rigors of travel and maintain an optimal, sterile surgical environment. Key features ensuring its groundbreaking capability include:

  • Real-Time Telesurgery: High-speed telecommunication systems enable surgeons to operate from a distance with minimal latency, allowing for real-time collaboration with the on-site team.
  • Uninterrupted Operation: The unit is equipped with backup power systems, including onboard generators, and an air suspension system to minimize vibrations, ensuring the precision of the robotic arms is maintained even in remote locations.
  • Ideal Surgical Environment: The unit maintains a precise, climate-controlled setting for sensitive equipment and procedures.

The SSI Mantram is more than just a mobile operating room; it serves as a powerful platform for surgical education and tele-mentoring. Through this unit, SS Innovations is bringing training and hands-on demonstrations of robotic surgery directly to hospitals and medical colleges in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, helping to train the next generation of surgeons.

Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, Founder, Chairman & CEO of SS Innovations, stated, “SSI Mantram is more than just a mobile telesurgical unit; it is a movement towards democratizing and decentralizing world-class healthcare. By overcoming traditional cost and distance hurdles, we can now deliver gold-standard remote surgical capabilities to underserved patient communities.”

Following a successful national tour and the completion of the first robotic telesurgery performed from the bus, the SSI Mantram is set to transform surgical access, ensuring that life-saving, minimally invasive procedures are no longer confined to major metropolitan areas.
