Thousands of schoolchildren from across Bradford are being invited to take part in a spectacular musical challenge this autumn, aiming to secure two new Guinness World Records titles as part of the city’s UK City of Culture 2025 celebrations.
On 11 November at the newly restored Bradford Live venue, the Bradford Music & Arts Service and the BBC Radio Leeds’ Bantam of the Opera choir will lead a mass participation event to attempt the records for the:
- Largest Air-Drumming Session
- Largest Body Percussion Lesson
The ambitious attempt will also serve as a major fundraising effort to support BBC Children in Need.
The children will receive instruction and inspiration from world-record holder Tim Brain, Managing Director of Louder Than Life. Mr. Brain previously organized the world’s largest percussion ensemble using recyclable instruments in 2023, which featured a staggering 1,252 participants.
“This is a remarkable opportunity for the young people of Bradford, promising an inspiring and historic day,” said Tim Brain. “Music is an invaluable force in enriching the lives of young people, and what better way to honour its impact than by achieving the distinction of becoming World Record holders.”
The event is a joint effort to put music and community spirit at the heart of the City of Culture year, providing thousands of young people with a memorable, high-profile experience while raising money for a vital cause.
“Bradford is buzzing with music, art and culture this year, and this event at the iconic Bradford Live will be a real highlight,” commented Councillor Sue Duffy, Portfolio Holder for Children and Families, inviting schools across the district to join in the history-making effort.
