The record-breaking performances continued at the New Delhi 2025 Para World Athletics Championships on a humid Sunday, as Norway’s Salum Ageze Kashafali blazed to a new world record in the Men’s 100m T12 final.
Kashafali, a three-time world champion in his category (T12 for athletes with significant visual impairment), scorched the new Mondo track at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium with a time of 10.42 seconds. This time narrowly eclipsed his own world record of 10.43 seconds, which he had set at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
The 31-year-old sprinter, whose journey includes overcoming civil war, an arduous refugee experience, and a diagnosis of Stargardt’s disease which caused his sight loss, secured yet another gold medal on the world stage.
Speaking after his victory, Kashafali highlighted the significance of the win, especially after a recent injury setback. “I had a knee injury for four months and could not train. I had to do boring work each day,” he said. “This is the most enjoyable [medal]. It’s not just good to be a world champion; I am an old champion.”
The Men’s 100m T12 final was a highlight of a day that saw a flurry of top performances, with five other Championship Records being set, proving that the new track in New Delhi is an ideal host for world-class Para athletics. Kashafali’s stunning time reaffirmed his status as the fastest man in the T12 category and a formidable force in global sprinting.
