Las Vegas to Witness Guinness World Record for ‘Most Casinos Visited’ in a Single Day

A new and grueling world record is expected to be certified today in Las Vegas as reality TV stars Joel Strasser and Garrett Smith near the completion of a marathon 24-hour attempt to visit and gamble in the most casinos.

The best friends and military veterans, who finished second on a recent season of The Amazing Race, are attempting to break the Guinness World Record for “Most Casinos Visited in 24 Hours,” which has stood at 74 since 2017.

As of early this morning, with just hours remaining in their 24-hour window, the duo had successfully patronized 70 casinos across Southern Nevada and were on track to not only break the record of 74, but to set a new benchmark of at least 75 casinos or more.

The Clock and the Rules

Strasser and Smith began their epic journey at 3:00 p.m. local time on Thursday, September 25, and must complete their final casino visit by 3:00 p.m. today.

The logistical challenge is immense, as the Guinness rules are strict, requiring the record seekers to:

  • Place a bet at a table game or electronic table game in each casino to count the visit (slot machine play is prohibited).
  • Use only public transportation or personal transit like walking and electric bicycles, with no hired cars or taxis.

“This record is so logistically tough. It is incredibly difficult to follow all of Guinness’ rules and jump through every hoop,” said Strasser, who holds a combined 20 Guinness World Records with Smith. “I think that’s why the record has stood for almost 10 years.”

The pair has been navigating the Las Vegas Strip, Downtown, and surrounding areas, covering over 129 miles on foot and electric bicycles during their first 15 hours. The mental and physical endurance test is a throwback to their days on The Amazing Race, with the added pressure of maintaining gambling decorum at each stop.

An official announcement confirming the new world record is anticipated later this afternoon after the 3:00 p.m. deadline.
