Ocean Network Express (ONE) has achieved a new milestone in global shipping, with its vessel ONE Innovation setting a new world record for the highest number of containers ever loaded onto a single ship. The vessel, one of ONE’s 24,000 TEU-class “Megamax” ships, departed from Singapore loaded with an incredible 22,233 TEUs.
TEU, or Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit, is a standard measure of a ship’s container carrying capacity, based on the volume of a 20-foot long container. ONE Innovation’s record-breaking load is the highest ever recorded on any containership to date.
This achievement surpasses ONE’s own previous records. In November 2023, the ONE Integrity loaded 21,954 TEUs, and just a month later, the ONE Innovation loaded 22,000 TEUs. The latest record, set on its journey from Singapore, demonstrates the company’s commitment to optimizing cargo intake and improving efficiency.
The 400-meter-long vessel is the first of six new Megamax ships to join ONE’s fleet. It is deployed on the Asia to Europe (FE3) service, a key trade route for global logistics. The vessel’s state-of-the-art design not only maximizes cargo but also features a bow windshield and an exhaust gas cleaning system to meet environmental regulations.
The record-breaking loading is a testament to the advancements in maritime technology and the industry’s continuous push to achieve greater economies of scale. It solidifies Singapore’s role as a major global shipping hub and highlights ONE’s position as a leader in the ultra-large container vessel segment.
