London City Lionesses, a club newly promoted to the Women’s Super League (WSL), have shattered the women’s football transfer record with a blockbuster deal for French midfielder Grace Geyoro from Paris Saint-Germain. The £1.4m deal, which was finalized on transfer deadline day, is the biggest in the history of the women’s game.
The transfer fee for Geyoro surpasses the previous record of £1.1m, which was set just last month when Orlando Pride signed Mexico winger Lizbeth Ovalle. The deal also represents the fourth time in 2025 that the women’s transfer record has been broken, demonstrating the growing investment and ambition in women’s football.
The 28-year-old Geyoro is a veteran with 103 caps for the French national team and is widely considered one of Europe’s top midfielders. Her arrival is a major statement of intent from the Lionesses, who are owned by wealthy American businesswoman Michele Kang. Kang’s investment has also seen the club acquire a host of other high-profile players this summer, including England international Nikita Parris and Spain’s Lucia Corrales, a teenage star from Barcelona.
Corrales, 19, was another key deadline-day signing for the Lionesses, with the club activating her £430,000 release clause to bring her in on a four-year deal. A graduate of Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy, Corrales is seen as a major talent for the future.
The massive spending spree, which has seen 16 permanent signings, shows that the Lionesses are aiming to compete at the very top of the WSL in their debut season.
