Sisters of St. Joseph Mark 375th Jubilee with World Record Seed Ball Drive in Visakhapatnam

In a unique and green celebration of their 375th Jubilee, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy, Visakhapatnam province, organized a massive seed ball making event on Thursday at St. Joseph’s College. The event, which brought together students, faculty, and sisters, was an attempt to set a Guinness World Records title for the most seed balls made in one hour.

The atmosphere on campus was one of joyous purpose as participants worked tirelessly to mold thousands of clay and seed mixtures into small, life-giving orbs. The aim of the event, which was attended by a Guinness World Records adjudicator, was to surpass the current record of 89,000 seed balls. The seed balls were made from a mixture of soil, cow dung, compost, and various seeds, including those of local indigenous trees and medicinal plants.

The initiative was more than just a record attempt; it was a testament to the congregation’s commitment to environmental stewardship and their deep connection to the communities they serve. According to the organizers, the seed balls will be distributed to local schools and villages for plantation in barren and deforested areas, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for the region.

“This is our way of celebrating the 375th year of our congregation by giving back to Mother Earth,” said Sister Mary Joseph, the event’s coordinator. “We want to sow seeds of hope, not just literally but also in the hearts of our young people, inspiring them to become stewards of creation.”

While the final count and official confirmation from Guinness World Records are pending, participants expressed a sense of pride and accomplishment in their collective effort. The event highlighted the power of community action and underscored the message that even a small, symbolic gesture can contribute to a monumental change.
