Custom playing card maker Rob Hallifax has once again proven his mastery of playing card-related records, this time claiming the Guinness World Records title for the “largest playing card.” His monumental creation, a King of Hearts, measures a staggering 3 m x 2.02 m (9 ft 10 in x 6 ft 7 in), comfortably eclipsing the previous record set by India’s Ramkumar Sarangapani in 2020.
The new record is Hallifax’s second Guinness World Records title this year. Earlier, he achieved the opposite feat by creating the smallest pack of playing cards at a minuscule 5.0 mm x 3.6 mm, a project that utilized advanced 3D printing technology.
The record-breaking King of Hearts is an outsized, to-scale replica of a standard playing card, as required by the record guidelines. The card itself is a work of art, with its design created from a photo mosaic of thousands of smaller images. Hallifax used photos submitted by his backers from a crowdfunding campaign, making the record a collective achievement.
According to Hallifax, creating the largest card was an even bigger challenge than making the smallest. “If you think about the area of this compared with all the small ones, this was a lot of work putting together all the components of it,” he said. The biggest obstacle, he added, was finding a specialist printer that could handle the “ultra large format” size and high-resolution requirements.
The giant playing card was recently delivered to the Guinness World Records office in London, where it was confirmed as the new record holder.
