A personal trainer with an unconventional approach to fitness has earned a Guinness World Records title by mastering a seemingly impossible combination of skills. Reger Maffei has been officially recognized for the most consecutive chin ups while hula hooping (male), a feat that showcases both strength and dexterity.
Maffei, who is based in California, achieved the record on December 16, 2019, by completing 40 consecutive chin-ups while keeping a hula hoop spinning around his waist. The record-breaking attempt required an incredible amount of core strength, coordination, and mental focus, as he had to maintain the rhythm of the hula hoop while pulling his body weight up to the bar.
The personal trainer, who has a background in calisthenics, was inspired by the challenge of combining two very different exercises. He trained for months, perfecting his form to ensure his movements were fluid enough to keep the hoop from falling.
“It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done,” Maffei told Guinness World Records. “The mental aspect of it was tougher than the physical. You can’t stop thinking about the hula hoop for even a second.”
His unique achievement has earned him a place in the record books and has also served as an inspiration to his clients. Maffei’s record is a testament to his belief that fitness should be about more than just lifting weights; it should be about pushing boundaries and finding creative ways to challenge yourself.
