The Polestar 3 has officially entered the record books, setting a new Guinness World Record for the longest journey by an electric SUV on a single charge. An unmodified production model of the Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor variant traveled an astounding 581.3 miles (935.44 km) on UK public roads, a feat that far surpasses its official WLTP range of 438 miles.
The record-breaking drive was a grueling endurance test that lasted nearly 23 hours and was completed by a team of three professional efficiency drivers: Sam Clarke, Kevin Booker, and Richard Parker. The team navigated a mix of A and B roads, as well as dual carriageways, and even faced mixed weather conditions, including rain, which typically impairs an EV’s efficiency.
The record highlights the remarkable real-world potential of modern electric vehicles. The drivers reported that when the Polestar 3’s range indicator reached its official WLTP figure of 438 miles, the battery still had a significant 20% charge remaining. The vehicle even continued to drive for an additional eight miles after the battery display showed zero percent.
This achievement, which was adjudicated by a Guinness World Records judge, serves as a powerful testament to the advancements in EV battery technology and efficiency. It also reinforces Polestar’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric performance and helps to challenge the long-held public perception that EVs are not suitable for long-distance travel.
