World Dog Surfing Championship Delights Crowds in Pacifica Beach

Surf’s up — and so are the tails! The shores of Pacifica Beach transformed into a canine carnival this weekend as it hosted the World Dog Surfing Championship, drawing four-legged athletes and their enthusiastic humans from around the globe.

Dozens of dogs — from tiny Chihuahuas to burly Bulldogs — rode the waves with style, balance, and a whole lot of wagging. The event, now a beloved annual tradition, combined competition, charity, and unbeatable cuteness as pups showed off their surf skills in solo, tandem, and even dog-human combo categories.

“It’s not just a competition, it’s a celebration of the incredible bond between dogs and people,” said Tracy Adler, one of the event organizers. “And let’s face it — watching a Golden Retriever hang ten never gets old!”

Crowds gathered along the sand, cheering for crowd favorites like “Bark Wahlberg”, a pug with custom goggles, and “Surfin’ Luna”, a rescue Labrador who took home the top prize for solo surfing.

Beyond the beach, the event raised funds for local animal shelters and pet adoption programs, making it a meaningful day for pets and people alike.

From wagging tails to spectacular splashdowns, the 2025 World Dog Surfing Championship proved once again that surfing isn’t just for humans — and that joy comes on four paws and a board.
