In a major boost to winter sports and recreation in the capital, Delhi is set to get its first-ever international-standard ice skating rink, to be built in Dwarka, transforming the city’s sports infrastructure and entertainment landscape.
Announced by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, the state-of-the-art rink will span over 30,000 square feet, equipped to host national and international-level figure skating, ice hockey, and recreational events.
“This will be a game-changer for Delhi’s youth,” said Sports Minister Anurag Thakur at the launch event. “We are committed to creating world-class facilities and nurturing India’s potential in winter sports.”
Key highlights of the upcoming rink include:
- Olympic-size skating surface
- Temperature-controlled environment year-round
- Professional training academies for ice sports
- Spectator seating, cafes, and retail zones
- Accessible sessions for public skating and school programs
The project is expected to be completed by mid-2026, and aims to serve both competitive athletes and the general public, giving Delhiites a taste of the Arctic in the heart of the city.
Sports enthusiasts, particularly ice hockey and figure skating fans, have welcomed the announcement, calling it a long-overdue development that will put Delhi on the map of global winter sports destinations.
