Vikaash Kumar Selvakumar Mythili, , from Tamil Nadu, India, has set a remarkable record by becoming the youngest individual to develop an innovative safety helmet for miners. His groundbreaking creation addresses critical safety concerns in the mining industry with a smart, sustainable approach.
The helmet, crafted using a composite of luffa fibre and glass fibre through a compression moulding technique, measures 54 cm x 55 cm in head circumference. It is notably lightweight and embedded with advanced smart sensors designed to detect hazardous events, thereby enhancing the protection and survival chances of miners working in extreme environments.
Recognized for its ingenuity and practical impact, Vikaash was awarded a winner’s certificate at the prestigious Smart India Hackathon 2022. His achievement was officially confirmed on March 30, 2024, marking a major milestone in youth innovation and industrial safety.
