In a spectacular celebration of classical art and Tamil heritage, the Department of Tourism, Government of Tamil Nadu organized the world’s largest Bharatanatyam ensemble on 8 February 2020, featuring an astounding 10,176 dancers performing in perfect unison.
The mega event, titled “Sathir 10000”, was held at S.I.V.E.T College, Chennai, and drew participants from across the state and beyond. The performance was uniquely choreographed based on the revered Tamil literary masterpiece, the Thirukkural, written by the ancient poet-saint Thiruvalluvar.
The dancers, ranging from seasoned performers to young students, came together to showcase the depth and grace of Bharatanatyam, one of India’s oldest and most revered classical dance forms. Clad in traditional attire, the massive group moved in sync, celebrating moral values, human ethics, and universal truths through rhythm, expression, and storytelling.
This historic feat was not just a cultural milestone but also a message of unity, heritage, and the enduring relevance of Tamil traditions in the modern era. “Sathir 10000” entered record books and captured the hearts of art lovers around the world, cementing Tamil Nadu’s place as the cultural capital of classical dance in India.
