World’s 2nd-Largest Hindu Temple Outside India Inaugurated in New Jersey

In a grand celebration of Indian culture and spirituality, the world’s second-largest Hindu temple outside India has been inaugurated in Robbinsville, New Jersey. Built by the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham temple is an architectural marvel that now stands as a beacon of Sanatan Dharma on American soil.

Spread over 185 acres, the temple was constructed using more than 2 million cubic feet of stone including Italian marble, Indian sandstone, and limestone. Its intricate carvings, traditional Indian design, and stunning domes and pillars make it not only a place of worship but a cultural and architectural landmark.

The temple was inaugurated in October 2023, with thousands of devotees, volunteers, and visitors from across the world participating in the celebrations. The spiritual and cultural center also houses exhibitions on Hindu teachings, yoga, and global peace, attracting both devotees and curious minds from diverse backgrounds.

The Akshardham in New Jersey now holds the distinction of being the largest Hindu temple in the Western Hemisphere, second only to the original Akshardham in Delhi, India.

With this monumental achievement, the Indian diaspora has once again demonstrated its deep-rooted cultural identity and commitment to preserving its spiritual heritage across the globe.
