Ms. Sano Vamuzo from Nagaland Conferred Padma Shri for Outstanding Contribution to Social Work

In recognition of her tireless service to society and her relentless efforts to uplift women and marginalized communities, the Government of India has honoured Ms. Sano Vamuzo from Nagaland with the prestigious Padma Shri award in the field of Social Work.

A widely respected figure in Nagaland’s civil society, Ms. Vamuzo has dedicated several decades to championing women’s rights, community development, education, and peacebuilding in the Northeast. She is known for her leadership in promoting gender equality, advocating for tribal welfare, and strengthening grassroots governance.

Ms. Vamuzo played a pivotal role in forming and leading key women’s organizations in Nagaland and has worked closely with local communities to combat issues such as domestic violence, trafficking, substance abuse, and illiteracy. Her initiatives have empowered countless women through vocational training, legal awareness, and leadership development.

“This honour is not mine alone — it belongs to every woman who dared to rise, speak, and lead,” said Ms. Vamuzo after receiving the award.
