“Padma Shri for Shri Ram Chander Sihag: Innovator in Agricultural Engineering”

In recognition of his pathbreaking work in the field of Science and Engineering, the Government of India has conferred the prestigious Padma Shri on Shri Ram Chander Sihag from Haryana.

A leading figure in agricultural engineering and innovation, Shri Sihag has spent decades working to improve farm machinery and mechanization, making agriculture more efficient and accessible for India’s small and marginal farmers. His inventive approach to designing low-cost, practical, and durable tools has brought about significant improvements in farm productivity, rural livelihoods, and sustainable farming practices.

His innovations have been widely adopted across India and appreciated by both farming communities and academic institutions. Notably, his work has helped reduce manual labour, improved soil health practices, and boosted crop yields — all while keeping farmers’ economic constraints in mind.

Apart from his technical expertise, Shri Sihag has also been a strong advocate of farmers’ education and technology awareness, often conducting workshops, training sessions, and field demonstrations to ensure the effective use of agri-tech innovations at the grassroots level.

In his response to the award, Shri Sihag said, “This honour belongs to every farmer who strives to grow with dignity. My mission has always been to serve them through science.”

Agricultural scientists, farmers’ unions, and development organisations have warmly welcomed the announcement, calling Shri Sihag “a silent transformer of rural India.”

With the conferment of the Padma Shri, the nation salutes Shri Ram Chander Sihag’s visionary contributions toward bridging science, engineering, and inclusive rural development.
