In a proud moment for Indian sports, tennis stalwart Shri Rohan Machanda Bopanna from Karnataka has been conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian honors in the country, for his outstanding contribution to the field of Sports.
Known for his powerful serve and exceptional doubles performances, Rohan Bopanna has been a key figure in Indian tennis for over two decades. A Grand Slam winner and an Olympic participant, Bopanna’s achievements have not only brought laurels to the nation but also inspired generations of young athletes across India.
Born in Coorg, Karnataka, Bopanna turned professional in 2003 and steadily rose through the ranks with landmark victories on the international stage. He clinched the French Open mixed doubles title in 2017, reached multiple Grand Slam finals, and was a regular feature in India’s Davis Cup squad.
The Government of India’s recognition of Bopanna through the Padma Shri highlights his dedication, sportsmanship, and role in promoting tennis in the country.
