“Melody Maestro Pyarelal Sharma Honoured with Padma Bhushan”

The Government of India has conferred the prestigious Padma Bhushan on veteran music composer Shri Pyarelal Sharma for his extraordinary contribution to Indian art and music. Hailing from Maharashtra, Pyarelal is best known as one half of the legendary composer duo Laxmikant–Pyarelal, who dominated Bollywood music for decades.

Shri Pyarelal Sharma’s name is synonymous with the golden era of Hindi film music. Together with his late partner Laxmikant Kudalkar, the duo composed over 5000 songs across 750+ films, leaving an indelible mark on Indian cinema from the 1960s through the 1990s.

Known for their orchestral richness, melodic versatility, and emotional depth, Laxmikant–Pyarelal created timeless music for films like Dosti, Amar Akbar Anthony, Karz, Ram Lakhan, Maine Pyaar Kiya, and countless more.

His compositions cut across genres—from classical ragas to disco—cementing his place as a pioneer of modern Indian film music.

By awarding the Padma Bhushan, the Government acknowledges Shri Pyarelal Sharma’s lifelong dedication to music, his role in shaping India’s cultural identity, and his unmatched contribution to the Indian film industry.
