Renowned cultural custodian and performer Smt. Thiyam Suryamukhi Devi has been conferred the prestigious Padma Shri award in recognition of her lifelong dedication to the traditional performing arts of Manipur. Smt. Thiyam Suryamukhi Devi has been instrumental in promoting Ras Leela, Nata Sankirtana, and various indigenous dance forms of Manipur. She has also directed numerous theatrical productions rooted in local folklore and Vaishnavite traditions.
Through her cultural institution and active community engagement, she has revived interest in classical and folk traditions that were once at risk of fading away.
