Shri A. Surya Prakash, a distinguished journalist, author, and former Chairperson of Prasar Bharati, has been conferred with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, in the field of Literature and Education – Journalism. This recognition celebrates his decades-long dedication to democratic values, public broadcasting, and journalistic integrity.
A native of Karnataka, Surya Prakash began his career in the 1970s and went on to work with leading media houses including The Indian Express, Zee News, The Pioneer, and ETV News. He rose to national prominence through his sharp political analysis and advocacy for parliamentary transparency and good governance.
He is widely respected for his in-depth books such as What Ails Indian Parliament and The Emergency – India’s Darkest Hour, which continue to serve as critical resources for scholars and citizens alike.
As Chairperson of Prasar Bharati, India’s public broadcaster, Surya Prakash played a pivotal role in modernizing the institution and promoting public interest programming, including initiatives to broadcast live proceedings of Parliament, thus enhancing democratic accountability.
