Young Aviator Siblings Mack and Zara Rutherford Win Prestigious Segrave Trophy

Sibling aviation prodigies Mack and Zara Rutherford etched their names in the annals of history once again by becoming the youngest-ever recipients of the Royal Automobile Club’s prestigious Segrave Trophy, an honor previously bestowed upon legends such as Lewis Hamilton and Sir Richard Branson.

The British-Belgian duo, known for their solo around-the-world flights, were recognized for their record-setting feats and inspirational contributions to aviation. The Segrave Trophy, first awarded in 1930, celebrates “outstanding skill, courage, and initiative” on land, water, or in the air.

Mack Rutherford, who became the world’s youngest qualified pilot at just 15, achieved global acclaim when he embarked on a solo circumnavigation flight from Sofia, Bulgaria, at age 16. By 17, he had completed his journey, becoming the youngest person ever to fly solo around the world.

His sister, Zara Rutherford, also made headlines when she became the youngest woman to fly solo around the globe, inspiring young aviators worldwide with her groundbreaking journey.

The Royal Automobile Club praised the siblings’ determination, resilience, and pioneering spirit, calling them “modern-day adventurers in the tradition of the greatest aviators.”

Their achievements not only continue to break records but also ignite a passion for aviation among younger generations.
