Captain Preet Chandi MBE, the extraordinary Army officer from Sinfin, Derby, has confirmed that she will “definitely” embark on another monumental challenge in the future, following her two record-breaking polar expeditions.
The 34-year-old, affectionately known as “Polar Preet,” recently secured two Guinness World Records after her grueling 922-mile (1,485km) trek across the Antarctic. Her incredible journey not only earned her the world record for the longest polar ski expedition by a woman, but also the overall record for the longest solo unsupported one-way polar ski journey. This builds on her previous achievement of being the first woman of colour to complete a solo, unsupported expedition to the South Pole in 2022.
Speaking on BBC Breakfast, Captain Chandi revealed her unyielding spirit: “There will be something else,” though she admitted she “just doesn’t know what yet.” True to her inspiring approach, she added, “I’ll bring people along with me on my next journey, whatever it is.”
Captain Chandi’s expeditions are renowned not just for their physical demands but also for her mission to inspire others, particularly young people and women, to push their boundaries and believe in their own capabilities. Her journeys involve pulling a heavy sled laden with supplies, battling extreme temperatures, and enduring immense physical and mental solitude.
Having already etched her name in the annals of polar exploration, the announcement of future endeavors from “Polar Preet” will undoubtedly ignite anticipation for what new heights she will conquer next.
