Ghanaian media personality Afua Asantewaa has completed an astonishing five-day singing marathon, clocking 126 hours and 52 minutes of continuous performance in what could become a new Guinness World Record.
Wrapped in the Ghanaian flag and with a hoarse but grateful voice, the 33-year-old addressed a cheering crowd in Accra, thanking them for their unwavering support throughout the marathon, which began on Christmas Eve.
Though visibly exhausted and struggling to recall the date, Ms Asantewaa’s spirit remained unshaken. “I hope this will be an inspiration to all women… to come out of your comfort zone and try new opportunities,” she said. “When you put your mind to it, you can achieve it.”
Her performance exceeded the previous sing-a-thon record by nearly 24 hours. Under Guinness World Records rules, she was allowed a five-minute break every hour, or 20 minutes every four hours — a strict regimen she adhered to throughout the marathon.
The event drew massive crowds, especially on Christmas Day, with support pouring in from top Ghanaian celebrities including Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, and Sarkodie, as well as Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia, actors, influencers, and thousands of fans.
Ms Asantewaa, also an entrepreneur and former beauty queen, must now wait for Guinness World Records to review and verify her attempt — but for many Ghanaians, she’s already a national hero.
