Leicestershire’s Soaring Dragons Paddle Toward World Record on River Soar

A Leicestershire dragon boat club may have paddled its way into history after attempting to break the world record for the most stand-up paddleboards linked together.

On Bank Holiday Monday, the Soaring Dragons, based in Hathern, assembled a snaking chain of paddleboards along the River Soar in a visually striking and community-spirited spectacle.

The current record stands at 17 connected boards, and the team is hopeful their effort has exceeded that figure. The exact number of paddleboards linked will be confirmed after drone footage is reviewed by Guinness World Records adjudicators.

“We’re really proud of how the day went,” said a spokesperson for the club. “Whether or not we officially break the record, it was an amazing show of teamwork and local enthusiasm.”

Now, all eyes are on the footage as the Soaring Dragons await confirmation of whether their watery chain makes it into the record books.
