If you’re ever in need of a quick gardening job, Dylan Phillips might just roll in faster than you can blink! The 38-year-old mechanic from Crymych, Pembrokeshire, has raced into the record books after building and driving the world’s fastest wheelbarrow.
During the Straightliners Speed Week 2024 at Elvington Airfield in Yorkshire, Phillips hit a jaw-dropping speed of 52mph (84km/h) in his motorised wheelbarrow, officially smashing the previous Guinness World Record of 46mph (74km/h).
Constructed entirely in his shed, the souped-up wheelbarrow is a testament to Phillips’ engineering ingenuity and sense of humour. Speaking after his record-breaking run, he described the experience as “fun and surreal.”
“I never imagined my gardening gear would need a speedometer,” joked Phillips.
The achievement has sparked global interest and delight, adding a quirky highlight to this year’s speed events. Guinness World Records has confirmed and officially recognised the feat.
